Demonstrating the state’s strong interest in the young generation being the future of the country, as well as the Cyprus Presidency’s high emphasis on youth issues, the Council of Ministers declared 2024 as the Year of Youth.
The main objectives of the Year of Youth are to promote the active participation of young people in decision-making processes, improve policies that affect them, promote inclusion and equal opportunities, enhance the skills of young people to facilitate their integration into society and the labour market, create opportunities for entrepreneurship among young people, as well as enhance the mental health of young people.
Achieving the objectives requires a structured action plan, for the formulation of which the Youth Organisation of Cyprus has been appointed as coordinator.
At a fortunate timing, given that 2024 is a special year for the Youth Board of Cyprus, as it marks 30 years since its establishment in 1994, the Youth Board of Cyprus will ensure, after contact and consultation with all relevant stakeholders, the preparation of a programme with a wide range of activities throughout the year, actively involving all ministries, sub-ministries, departments, agencies, youth organisations, civil society organisations and other relevant and interested parties.
Youth Board of Cyprus will be assisted in its mission by the advisory role of a committee, which will be established for this purpose and will be composed of a representative of the Cyprus Youth Council, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, a representative of the Foundation for the Management of European Lifelong Learning Programmes and the Commissioner for Citizens or his representative.
All activities and initiatives that will be developed during the Year of Youth will be aligned with the objectives of the European Union’s Youth Strategy 2019-2027, which focuses on three pillars of action revolving around the terms “activate”, “connect” and “empower”. The aim across Europe is to empower young people, for their personal, social, economic and professional development in a green, digital and inclusive world
